First aid technicians are responsible for overseeing rope access operations, ensuring safety, and managing emergency situations, including first aid and rescue. As part of their training and certification, Level 3 candidates must complete and maintain a valid first aid qualification.
Key First Aid Requirements-
Certification:
- IRATA requires Level 3 technicians to hold an industry-recognized first aid qualification, typically including CPR and trauma management.
- The certification must be valid and regularly renewed (often every 3 years).
-
Emergency Response Skills:
- Managing medical emergencies in high-risk environments.
- Administering first aid while suspended or at height.
- Handling common rope access injuries such as falls, fractures, suspension trauma, and cuts.
-
Rescue & Evacuation:
- Coordinating casualty recovery from height.
- Using rope systems for injured personnel extraction.
- Communicating with emergency services effectively.
-
Common Course Inclusions:
- Basic life support (BLS) and CPR.
- Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
- Managing unconscious casualties.
- Bleeding control and wound care.
