First Aid

First aid technicians are responsible for overseeing rope access operations, ensuring safety, and managing emergency situations, including first aid and rescue. As part of their training and certification, Level 3 candidates must complete and maintain a valid first aid qualification.

Key First Aid Requirements
  • Certification:
    • IRATA requires Level 3 technicians to hold an industry-recognized first aid qualification, typically including CPR and trauma management.
    • The certification must be valid and regularly renewed (often every 3 years).
  • Emergency Response Skills:
    • Managing medical emergencies in high-risk environments.
    • Administering first aid while suspended or at height.
    • Handling common rope access injuries such as falls, fractures, suspension trauma, and cuts.
  • Rescue & Evacuation:
    • Coordinating casualty recovery from height.
    • Using rope systems for injured personnel extraction.
    • Communicating with emergency services effectively.
  • Common Course Inclusions:
    • Basic life support (BLS) and CPR.
    • Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
    • Managing unconscious casualties.
    • Bleeding control and wound care.
    • Treating shock, fractures, and spinal injuries.
    • Heat exhaustion and hypothermia treatment.

Since IRATA Level 3 technicians act as safety supervisors on-site, their first aid training is critical for ensuring a swift and effective response to any incidents.
